Jet boating and 4-wheel drive is 30 minutes away. Stay in one place and take a day trip to Rotorua (geothermal wonderland) and Whakatane (active off shore volcano) - both a 1-hour drive away, and Waitomo Caves (Glow worms and black water rafting) is a 2-hour drive away.
