  • One can't help feeling a little like Lawrence of Arabia on the journey to the Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa in the heart of Dubai's desert. Al Maha is located 45 minutes away from Dubai city of Gold. Though 4-wheel drive jeeps have long since replaced camels as the most common form of transport, the sense of adventure, privacy and isolation remains. Open since March 1999, the Al Maha was the first ecotourism resort built in the United Arab Emirates, home of the indigenous species such as the Arabian Oryx and Gazelles have been reintroduced and wander freely. Renovations and Closures May 01, 2003 to Dec 15, 2003 - WEST WING of hotel CLOSED for Renovations. * All rooms and suites will be fully renovated. * A new SPA will be build around the main pool * 10 NEW suites to be added to the West Wing * Upgrade/enlarge the Suite Pool * The West Wing is tentatively scheduled to Re-Open December 15, 2003. During the refurbishment program, all guests will be accommodated in the EAST WING with no disturbance at all in terms of noise. The distance from the West Wing to the East Wing is 250 Metres. Jan 10, 2004 to Mar 31, 2004 - EAST WING will close for refurbishment, including: * Upgrading of Suite Pools * Construction of a New Al Maha Conference Facility * Creation of a New Owner Suite.
