  • It is on the edge of this magnificent park, Villaborghese, that Amedeo Ottaviani took over in the midst of discreet and hidden residences of people of importance and standing. He built a white house and this beautiful building recalls the words of Byron himself who, on arriving in Rome, wrote to his friend Murray in London "I am delighted with Rome - as I would be with a bandbox that is, it is a fine thing to see". This white house also brings to mind the famous verse of GaioValerio Catullo who speaks to his love of a house standing in gardens "Illic, mea domina, vivimus" -"There, my lady, we have lived". The hotel reflects this spirit of refined exclusivity, the pleasure of sheer elegance as if in his home. * Year hotel opened.......: 1962 * Year building erected...: 1939 * Last major renovation...: 2003 Renovations and Closures * All guest rooms (except 6 rooms on the 4th floor of the hotel) have been refurbished * Restaurant "Sapori del Lord Byron" open and operational * All public areas of the hotel have been fully renovated and refurbished * Hotel now fully air conditioned August 28, 2003 to November 15, 2003 - Guest rooms on the 4th floor will be refurbished. * The remaining work on the 4th floor will be a "soft renovation" completely isolated and away from guest traffic flow. These guest rooms will be refurbished with new wall-to-wall carpeting, fabric wall coverings and new draperies.
