  • Dating back to the thirteenth century and the building of Salisbury's ancient cathedral, the Best Western Red Lion Hotel is not only surrounded by history, it is also a part of it. Not far away are Stonehenge, the New Forest, Wilton House, Breamore House, Broadlands and the Museum of Army Flying. So much of the past is in easy access, yet the Best Western Red Lion Hotel offers the most modern of comforts and facilities.The Best Western Red Lion Hotel is the ideal place to stay whether you are a tourist or a conference delegate. It is also a place to celebrate and ideally suited for special occasions such as wedding receptions, cocktail parties, luncheons and dinners. In 2002 the Red Lion won the "Best Historic Inn in Britain" accolade - as voted upon by the readers of British Heritage Magazine a prestigious publication in the United States. The Red Lion is believed to be the longest running, purpose built hotel in the country. Recently a medieval fireplace was exposed during the refurbishment of one of the bedrooms in the original wing of the hotel. It is believed to date from around 1220, when work started on the present Cathedral.
